Lesson Title: Lesson 1- Multimeters

Lesson Prerequisite: This lesson is designed for participants familiar with AC/DC theory, electrical safety, and electrical print reading.

Lesson Description: This lesson shows and explains how to use a multimeter to measure voltage and resistance. It also presents different types of multimeters (analog and digital) and describes their use.

Lesson Outcome: Upon completion of this lesson, participants will be able to set up and adjust a multimeter; interpret readings on various multimeter scales as well as measure voltage and resistance using multimeters.

Lesson Title: Lesson 2- Oscilloscopes

Lesson Prerequisite: This lesson is designed for participants familiar with AC/DC theory, electrical safety, and electrical print reading. A basic understanding of electronic devices and circuits is recommended.

Lesson Description: This lesson shows and explains how to use an oscilloscope to measure voltage and frequency as well as to analyze waveform shapes. The lesson also shows how to set up an oscilloscope to test a circuit or to troubleshoot an electronic device.

Lesson Outcome: Upon completion of this lesson, participants will be able to set up and adjust an oscilloscope; use an oscilloscope to measure voltage and frequency to determine whether a waveform at a particular test point is the proper waveform; and use an oscilloscope in troubleshooting.

Lesson Title: Lesson 3- Ammeters, Meggers, and Wheatstone Bridge Lesson Prerequisite: This lesson is designed for participants familiar with AC/DC theory, electrical safety, and electrical print reading. A basic understanding of electronic devices and circuits is recommended.

Lesson Description: This lesson presents the principles of operation and functions of a megohmmeter, a clamp-on ammeter, and a Wheatstone bridge. Procedures for the safe use of these devices are also provided.

Lesson Outcome: Upon successful completion of this lesson, participants will be able to give an example of the use of a megohmmeter, identify the basic components, define the function, describe safety and selection considerations, describe the procedures for setting up a megohmmeter, describe how to attach the leads to the system under test, and describe how to take a reading of a 3-phase AC motor. They will also be able to define a bridge circuit, identify the components of a Wheatstone bridge, define the function, describe how to set mechanical and electrical zero, describe how to take a reading, and describe how to interpret a Wheatstone bridge reading. They will also be able to identify the components of a clamp-on ammeter, describe the range settings, define the function, describe safety and selection considerations,define the "peak hold" and "recording" features, describe the procedures for setting up a clamp-on ammeter, and describe how to take a reading and modify the range.
